Cancer patients ask for a decent cancer center in Tijuana – Telemundo San Diego (20)

TIJUANA- Citizens who suffer from cancer and supporters in Tijuana arrived with banners before the Baja California health secretary, Alonso Pérez Rico, demanding a decent cancer center for those who experience this disease.

Citizens said that since the pandemic began, the site designated for them in the medical specialties unit (Uneme) is limited and that the site is crowded with patients arriving from Rosarito, Tecate, and other neighborhoods surrounding Tijuana.

On November 11, the governor, Jaime Bonilla and the secretary of health made a three-month commitment to create a better space for people with cancer, during a live broadcast.

“The place is very small, our companions the waiting line for surgeries is getting long, they send us to Mexicali for radiation and that implies expense, money and time, because we leave the families here and stay there, 18, 20, a month, a month and a half to take radiation, ”said Olivia Castro, a victim of breast cancer.

While the Secretary of Health of Baja California said that specific areas would be prepared so that patients can be treated with the quality and safety they deserve.

“We are going to prepare specific areas so that patients can be treated with the quality and safety they deserve, and once we can guarantee that, we are going to move the patients from the Uneme cancer center to where they are right now so that they can be conditioned in its entirety, ”Pérez Rico pointed out.

Given the demands, and the hunger strike that a man has been carrying out since last Monday in Tijuana, the health secretary said that he would not move people with cancer until the general hospital is conditioned, and it works again in a mixed and not specifically for COVID-19 patients, as it happens until this February 24.

Pérez Rico assured on the site that they not only remodel the parking lot but also the central air systems, and reiterated to the press that most cancer patients are happy with the supply of drugs that has been achieved.
