Bilbao
During his visit to Hoy por Hoy Bilbao, he has not missed his badge, his amulet, a fantastic horn that sounds every time he reaches the summit, every time he completes one of his challenges for almost two years. Challenges that now join another enormous and supportive one, breast cancer. And if he does, it is because his life partner, Karmele, has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer for that time. Javier is clear that sporting challenges are his thing, those that take him to the mountain, to those of Bizkaia. “This time I will go up and down one of the mountains of Gordexola, the Ilso, nonstop for 15 hours to continue raising funds for these women.” And boy does it collect. Only last year he managed to complete another challenge and donate nearly 6,000 euros against breast cancer.
The diagnosis of Karmele, his wife, came on June 26, two years ago. In the midst of a pandemic. It was, as always, “a blow to family life” and that’s when Javier set himself a double goal, to normalize the disease and raise funds for research. On this occasion, on June 18, the day will be accompanied by the solidarity of friends and acquaintances to liven up what always tries to be a festive day. “I will start running at 6:00 a.m. to finish at 9:00 p.m. but with the help of many friends, Gordexola will be a party for these women because I never tire of saying that they are not alone.”
A visibility that will also have its gastronomic part. Around 500 servings of putxeras will be served at noon. “And for desserts we have the help of the Matxako de Karrantza and Saratxaga de Galdames bakeries.” And as he tells us in the interview that here you can recover the day will have falconry displays and various incentives to achieve that solidarity. On the website of ACAMBIyou can also contribute to a cause that, as Javier concludes, still has a lot to do.
