A 72-year-old cancer patient took his own life in Crete, waiting for the medicine to start his chemotherapy. A medicine, which his cousin said, finally arrived on the day of his funeral.
As Mr. Eftichis Sarzetakis described speaking to ANT1, the 72-year-old suffered and his health condition had worsened as he did not immediately receive the care and medical treatment he needed, according to the judgment of his relatives. His relatives searched abroad for the medicine that was not available in Greece, so that he could start treatment for a 6 cm tumor that the doctors had found.
His relatives searched for the drug, even through MPs, but when it could not be found the preparation was sought in Germany. It was ordered and tragically ironically arrived in the mail at the cancer patient’s home on the night of his funeral!
Apologies to his family
Mr Sargetakis noted that the 72-year-old suffered excruciating pain for many days and nights due to the cancer, had difficulty sleeping and was unable to even walk to the hospital when he was alerted to go for his treatment.
He also said that the suicide bomber left a note to his children, grandchildren and other relatives, saying that he loves them and apologizes for the pain he caused them with his act. Next to the note, he had also left a small glass that he drank to their health, before he killed himself.
