Patients from the State Cancer Center Doctor Miguel Dorantes Mesa in this capital denounced that since last year the oncological physiotherapy service was withdrawn, which greatly affects the sequelae of the neoplasia process they face.
Amparo Acosta Coria from the municipality of Orizaba, one of the patients affected by this measure, pointed out that they are a group of 40 women who require this physiotherapy service, which is provided once they undergo mastectomy to mitigate the effects of surgical intervention.
“When they operate on us, things are no longer the same, we are left with sequelae that sometimes the medicine does not take away the pain, our arm becomes inflamed and the discomfort is strong; sometimes radiotherapy truncates us and we cannot receive it, that is why we require oncological physiotherapy to treat us ”, he added.
We do not know whether the order to withdraw this service was ordered by the director of the hospital, Dr. Jorge Ortiz González, or why it was suspended; for us this is of utmost importance; A servant has been receiving oncology physiotherapy for five years and it has worked very well for me, he added.
He expressed that now they do not know what to do since we have requested an appointment with the physiotherapist and there is no such service; this area in the hospital no longer exists since last year, he added.
He recalled that due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients no longer received these therapies and so far this year, they have not been provided either, without giving further explanations in this regard. “Right now we no longer have this service, most of us are breast cancer patients,” he said.
He pointed out that the patients who receive this treatment come from several municipalities in the north, center and south of the state of Veracruz, who when having to go to receive medical services in this medical center, have to spend and sometimes there is not even to eat and less to cover the expenses of a room in a hotel.
“We really need this attention from physiotherapy, it is in the middle of our lives; we turn to the Governor, as the highest authority to take action on the matter, and supervise how this much-needed service of physiotherapy is required ”, he stated.
Lastly, the patients also demanded that the Secretary of Health, Roberto Ramos Alor, supervise the lack of healing material that is available in this hospital.
