Romelu Lukaku has taken advantage of the international break to fine-tune his physical preparation. The 31-year-old striker wants to earn his place at the heart of the Neapolitan squad and is giving himself the means to achieve this.
Romelu Lukaku has his work cut out for him. Transferred in the last days of the transfer window to Napoli, the 31-year-old Red Devil knows that he must fill obvious physical gaps, after a truncated summer preparation spent with the Chelsea U23s. The English club wanted to sell his player, but Napoli needed time to finalize his arrival, desired by Antonio Conte, the new coach of the Italian club.
A big transformation
But today, the Belgian arrived. He even scored on his first appearance. But he especially asked not to be taken back for the Nations League, and the matches against Israel and France, in order to work on his physical condition. La Dernière Heure even tells us that, unlike other Naples players, Lukaku had not taken the two days of leave offered by the club. Aware that he had to get back into shape, he chained training, including with the U21s, whom he even joined for a small friendly match.
Clearly, the efforts are already starting to pay off and the Neapolitans are won over. “With Romelu, you already feel a different weight within the team. He puts a lot of fuel and I don’t know how his body will react, but he has already changed in the space of a week. He does an incredible job for the team. Romelu Lukaku is desperate to regain confidence and play more games after a few difficult seasons marked by great instability. Naples is banking on him, having notably transferred Osimhen to Galatasaray to make room for him. Lukaku will now have to rise to the occasion.
