Cancellation of the departmental election in Lanester: “A victory for democracy” – Lorient

Claudine de Brassier and Fabrice Vély, two of the protagonists (departmental majority) in this story, wasted no time. This Tuesday, December 28, 2021, barely 24 hours after the announcement by the Rennes administrative court to cancel the elections in the canton of Lanester-Caudan, they held a press conference. Way to them to prove that the four voices that they had missed on the evening of June 27, 2021 to be declared the winners against the pair Myrianne Coché and Alain Paris (left) had always remained through their throats

. And that the electoral contest would resume. “The decision taken by the court is a victory for democracy,” says Claudine de Brassier.

“Everything but a surprise”

“This cancellation is anything but a surprise. As of the day after the second round, in view of the elements that we had been able to gather on the irregularities which marked the electoral operations, and taking into account the very small difference of votes, the cancellation of the election acquired by four votes of difference s ‘required, since there should never be any doubt as to the results,’ says Fabrice Vély.

Among the elements which tipped the judgment of the administrative court in their favor, Claudine de Brassier and Fabrice Vély retain three: “A power of attorney was established irregularly. The principal had not signed the official document establishing the power of attorney. She should not have been taken into account in the Lanester polling station. Six voters in the municipality of Caudan were deprived of the exercise of their right to vote due to the late delivery of their proxies which, although they had been established in good time, given the normal delivery times registered mail. Finally, for four votes concerning voters in the commune of Lanester, the voting list includes, in the second round, a signature that is significantly different from that of the first round of the election ”.

And now ?

Myrianne Coché and Alain Paris have a period of one month, from December 27, to appeal this judgment to the Council of State. Contacted, Myrianne Coché reserves her answer. “We led the Departmental campaign in a collegial manner. The decision to contest this judgment or not will be made in the same way ”. After this deadline and if there is no dispute, the prefect of Morbihan will have three months to restart the electoral process. From now on, the exercise promises to be perilous, just by thinking of the Presidential election scheduled for April 10 and 24, 2022. The only certainty: Claudine de Brassier and Fabrice Vély will return to the fight “even if victory is never achieved in advance “.

-Out of 22,401 registered, Myrianne Coché and Alain Paris obtained 3,804 votes and Claudine de Brassier and Fabrice Vély 3,800.
