Cancellation of Kufos VC appointment is setback for Governor: MV Govindan-Kerala High Court | VC appointment in KUFOS | Setback for Governor Arif Mohammed Khan MV Govindan

Thiruvananthapuram ∙ State Secretary of CPM MV Govindan said the High Court action nullifying the appointment of VC of Kerala Fisheries University (KUFOS) is a setback for the Governor. Governor Arif Muhammad Khan is trying to escape by blaming the government. Govindan stated in LDF’s Raj Bhavan March that if there is no expert in the post of VC, it is the governor who should correct him.

The appointment of Vice Chancellor K. Rigi John of Kufos was annulled by the High Court yesterday. The court held that there was no UGC candidate on the VC selection committee and instead of providing a judging panel for the VC nomination, only one name was suggested and it was against UGC rules. The High Court has ordered the Governor, who is also the Chancellor, to form a new selection committee under UGC rules and find the VC.

Thousands of people gathered in LDF’s Raj Bhavan defense march against the Governor, in front of the Higher Education Protection Committee. The Secretary General of the CPM, Sitaram Yachuri, inaugurated the demonstration which began in front of the Police Station of the Museum. Yachuri said the protest was due to political issues. The Left Front had decided that Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the ministers would not attend the rally.
