After this change, there are not a few complaints made on the network, which may have caused published a document which shows the steps to follow to all those who are interested, in the blocking Windows 10 updates. A tutorial from Microsoft that can help you not reach our team a failed update.

Using the Registry Editor

Some steps that require changing parameters in the Registry Editor, so any modification made must be carried out under the sole responsibility of the user. Here are the steps to block the installation of updates on a Windows 10 computer.

Microsoft releases the first update for Windows 10 May 2020 Update correcting a good number of bugs and errors

The first thing we must do is enter the Registry Editor and the most practical way to do it is to press the key combination. “Windows + R”. Another form of access is type “Regedit” in the search box.

Regedit1

In the window that appears we must locate the route “HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows WindowsUpdate”. Once located, we click with the right mouse button on “WindowsUpdate” and we look in the drop-down menu for the section “New> DWORD Value (32 bit)”.

Regedit2

We give it the name “TargetReleaseVersion” (without quotes) and we give the value “1” (without the quotes).

Regedit3

Regedit4

Again we right click on “WindowsUpdate” and and we seek “New> String value”where we choose as name “TargetReleaseVersionInfo” (without the quotes). In this case we must add the value of the version of Windows 10 that we want to keep as a value, for which we only have to click on the new field created with the right mouse button and use the “Modify” option.

Regedit5

If for example we are in Windows 10 1909 (November 2019 Update) and we do not want to go to Windows 10 2004 (May 2020 Update), we must give it the value “1909” (if the quotes). At that point we only have to close the “Registry Editor”.

Regedit6

In this way and thanks to the changes in the Registry Editor, Windows 10 updates will be paused.
