Kuwait City | As part of controlling the traffic jam in Kuwait, denying driver’s license to expatriates is not a solution. Lt. Gen. Fahd Al-Shuwaya. He also opined that there is no other country in the world that has stopped issuing driving licenses to solve traffic jams.
Fahad Al-Shuwaya opened up about this matter in a discussion organized by the local Arab daily including experts regarding solving the heavy traffic congestion in the country. The main reason for the problem is the lack of coordination between the concerned ministries in the country. He said that instead of blaming the Home Ministry alone, a high-level committee should be formed to solve the problem, including the Home, Labour, Health, Commerce and Municipalities Ministries.
This requires the full support and cooperation of all the authorities and ministries of the country. Since 1980, we have started constructing Fifth Ring, Fourth Ring, King Fahd Express, Riyadh Express, King Faisal Express and Al-Ghazali Express. But the mass transport system was neglected. He added that there is no other solution to the traffic jam the country is currently facing except to expand the mass transport system.
If expatriates are provided with a mass transport system, they will not need a driving license or a car. This way they can also save money. Fahad Al Shuwaya asked that European countries should be modeled for this. As part of solving the heavy traffic jam in the country, the working hours of the government offices were divided into three shifts during the month of Ramzan. But the fact is that the action was a massive failure. It is in this situation that the discussions related to traffic jams are again active.
