Canceled Postponed Due to U-23 Asian Cup, League 1 Will Resume Starting April 15 2024

FAJAR.CO.ID, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (PT LIB) as the operator of Liga 1 2023/2024 has decided that the highest level football competition in the country will continue on April 15.

Previously, PT LIB together with PSSI decided to postpone the continuation of League 1 based on the interests of the U-23 national team which will compete in the U-23 Asian Cup, from April 15 to May 3. PT LIB then promised to hold discussions with club owners to find the best solution for all parties regarding this matter.

After holding an online meeting with club owners on Thursday, a solution was found to continue League 1 on April 15.

“In this meeting of club owners, we are looking for a win-win solution for all parties. “Finally we decided that the 31st week of BRI Liga 1 2023/24 will start again on April 15 2024,” said LIB Main Director, Ferry Paulus, in an official statement reported by Antara.

“In the meeting of club owners there were several options for the resumption date of BRI Week 31 2023/24. “After everyone understands and considers all the situations, conditions and the club’s readiness which is not good if they wait a long time and have to rest, we have decided that the competition will continue on April 15 2024,” he added.

PSSI and PT LIB’s decision to suddenly stop Liga 1 disappointed several clubs, especially because they had the potential to suffer financial losses due to the delayed competition schedule.

The 2023/2024 Liga 1 regular season competition has played 30 match weeks, and there are only four weeks left before entering the championship series phase. Borneo FC is the only club that has confirmed qualification for the championship series, while the other three tickets are still being contested by Persib Bandung, Bali United, Madura United, PSIS Semarang and Persik Kediri.
