Ukraine immediately cancel joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) amid rumors of invasion Russia to that country.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, later alluded to two NATO members, French and German.
“France and Germany should do a lot more to get Ukraine to join NATO. They themselves must be interested in this issue and are convinced of it,” Zelensky was quoted as saying. Russia Today.
Ukraine has never expressed a desire to join NATO. However, this intention was strongly opposed by Russia. Dialogue between the two countries was deadlocked.
Russia then deployed military forces including troops and heavy weapons to the border near Ukraine. Tensions escalated when the United States said Russia would soon invade Ukraine.
As a result, Ukraine declared its cancellation of joining NATO amid threats from Russia.
Zelensky also previously mentioned that there are NATO members who support Russia’s stance against Ukraine joining NATO. However, he declined to clearly name the members who refused Ukraine to join NATO.
“There is cause and effect associated with it. It’s not only Russia that refuses to join Ukraine (into NATO).”
“We’re not going through this with these countries, and don’t want to pose any risk or diplomatic conflict.”
However, Zelensky said Ukraine’s efforts to join NATO did not stop here.
“The road to NATO and the European Union is very long. Ukraine needs security guarantees to go through that process,” Zelensky said again.
