After ten years, the animated sci-fi series Futurama from the creators of The Simpsons returns. Authors Matt Groening and David X. Cohen launched the last, tenth season in 2013 still on classic TV screens. The eleventh will be presented on streaming platforms next month.

Czechs will see the news from July 24 in the Disney+ video library, where a new episode should appear every week. “There’s something for everyone in the new episodes,” they promised Variety.com writers.
The series takes place in the 31st century on the spaceship of the interstellar delivery company Planet Express. “New viewers will get it right away, and longtime fans will appreciate the revelation of a decade-old mystery, including the unraveling of Fry and Leela’s relationship, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s toilet, the secret past of the evil Robo Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles,” the synopsis states.
The underdog, outsider and former delivery boy at Fry’s pizzeria remains the central character of the story, the one-eyed mutant Leela is the only member of the Planet Express ship’s crew. Another key actor in Futurama is the chubby robot Bender. “As the pandemic unfolds, the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and TV streaming,” the creators hint.
John DiMaggio once again voices the robot Bender in the English version. For a while it seemed that he would not participate in the return of Futurama, because he thought that he and his colleagues would be paid too little. He wrote it on Twitter. In the end, however, DiMaggio reached an agreement with the producers, clarifies server Digitalspy.com.
The first four seasons of the series were broadcast on Fox television between 1999 and 2003, later Futurama returned with four direct-to-DVD films. Subsequently, the story continued on Comedy Central until 2013, when Futurama seemingly ended for good.
According to critics, the series is crazier than The Simpsons and targets, among other things, fans of pop culture. “On the mistakes and shortcomings of the characters from The Simpsons, the authors show the weaknesses of contemporary man. In Futurama, the shortcomings of the current world are illustrated by the shortcomings of life in the future,” wrote Aktuálně.cz, according to which the creators satirize technological progress or the world of consumerism with taste and quote scenes from current films or TV shows series. This will also apply to new releases, in the trailer, for example, the characters are running away from a sand worm like from the recent blockbuster Dune.
Futurama has turned in six of its 14 Emmy nominations so far. It was first broadcast in the Czech Republic by Prima Cool TV in 2009, when the heroes were voiced by Jan Dolanský, Martin Stránský or Bohdan Tůma.
