With the withdrawal of the Indonesian U-23 and Myanmar national teams, Malaysia will also face fewer matches in the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup. This is also considered by Maloney to be embarrassing.

“We came here to play football and give exposure to our players at international level, but now we have fewer games to play,” said Maloney, as quoted by Bernama, Wednesday (16/2/2022).

“For me, it’s a shame and I understand the situation that Indonesia and Myanmar are in, so I have to withdraw,” he continued.

“So, as it stands now, Group B has only one game between us and Laos and we’ll see what happens next,” Maloney explained.
