Canatur will analyze security climate to strengthen tourist destinations in the country

With the intention of positively influencing the strengthening of the security climate in the country’s tourist destinations, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) has been developing a series of initiatives with its affiliated organizations and companies.

For this reason, next Wednesday, April 20, the Seminar-Workshop, “Tourist Safety as a Key to Success”, will be held at the Costa Rica Convention Center (CCCR), in which spaces for exchange, discussion and analysis will be held, with the aim of generating short, medium and long-term solutions aimed at reinforcing the comprehensive security of the tourism sector.

During the first part of the event, exhibitors, both national and international, will share successful cases of transformation of safe spaces with a tourist vocation with the attendees.

While for the second part, a participatory workshop will be held with the attendees in different work groups, in order to establish priorities and a roadmap to work on the issue of security at the local level.

The event aims to create a sustained strategy to support the 32 Tourism Development Centers in Costa Rica and a forum for reflection with local actors who have been expressing their concern about the security climate.

“The objective of the workshop is to generate a diagnosis of each one of the zones, to have a kind of x-ray of the main problems of each place, which are not necessarily the same. With this diagnosis we want to ask the local or regional work groups for a work plan, with short, medium and long-term measures, not only to see the problem, but to provide solutions, understanding that there are things that can be done now and others that will take longer”, said Rubén Acón, president of Canatur.

This diagnosis will also be presented to the next government authorities, with the intention of establishing a comprehensive strategy that facilitates the management of the safety of tourists throughout the country.

“In the end, what the seminar intends is that it be a starting point for work and that the seminar be followed up, it is not that the seminar is an end in itself and that is as far as we go, but that we intend to create a permanent structure of work and constantly looking at the issue of security to avoid incidents”, added Acón.

The international experts who will participate in the event will be facilitated with the support of the embassies of Colombia, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Canatur aspires to bring together 200 participants, including representatives of government institutions responsible for security, sectoral and regional leaders of the Costa Rican tourism industry.

The value of the participation is $25 (+VAT) for Canatur affiliates who are up to date, $75 (+VAT) for affiliates with pending and $100 (+VAT) for non-affiliates.
