Canary Islands Approves Credit Increase for Water Investment Project on La Palma

The Government of the Canary Islands has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, an increase in credit amounting to 2,305,452 euros for the conclusion of the investment project of the pond de Vicario and the hydraulic connection of La Laguna de Barlovento with the Garafía-Tirajafe Canal, reports in a press release.

Specifically, he points out, this budget modification will focus on completing the works on the vineyard’s hydraulic system, phase 2-A. This action, he adds, is part of the collaboration agreement between the State and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for the development of water-related actions on the islands.

It should be remembered, he explains, that the initial credit for the execution of this fundamental work for La Palma was 9,386,263.04 euros, corresponding to the accounts of the General Directorate of Water of the regional Executive.

The use of this credit, he adds, is justified by the proximity of the deadline for the completion of the contract and because the remaining credit of the projects used as coverage allows to start the planned actions charged to them. In addition, he points out, 2,305,452.20 euros can be made available for this budget modification without generating a debt in the current budget year.

The projected works, he indicates, are made up of a pool of loose materials and an interior PVC waterproofing sheet, with a capacity of 1.45 cubic hectometres, connected to the Garafía-Tijarafe canal by means of a gravity pipe and an impulsion, which connects it with the hydraulic system of the Aridane Valley. The works are carried out in the area of the Vicario pond and the Barlovento-Garafía connection.

Regarding the hydraulic connection between the Barlovento lagoon and the Garafía-Tijarafe canal, he concludes, it involves a pipeline of more than 13 kilometers of 250-millimeter-diameter galvanized steel pipe, to which must be added the associated valves.
