Canarian hoteliers, hopeful with the return of international tourism in July | Radio Club Tenerife

The main economic sector of the Canary Islands is preparing to start again after a historical tourist zero. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced that national tourism will be reactivated “in the middle or end” of June, while international tourism will do so from July. However, the details on how the activity will be in the coined “new normal” will be known in the coming days.

In this sense, Sánchez has asked the regional presidents this Saturday to promote, above all, national tourism so that it is the one that “pushes and pulls the car” in summer. Likewise, she has ensured that Minister Reyes Maroto will convene the Interterritorial Council to agree on measures with all regions.

The decision of the central executive has been taken by the Canarian hoteliers as a ball of oxygen, since the estimates of the Ministry of Tourism pointed to the autumn season as the starting signal for the economic recovery. The president of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and of the employers’ association in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Ashotel), Jorge Marichal, has been satisfied in this regard: “Together with the expansion of the ERTEs and with other financial measures that the sector has been requesting a few months, it will give a positive horizon for this summer ”.

Marichal has also predicted that, if there is not a significant outbreak of the disease, normality could return this winter: “We have to work a lot, that tourists can come does not mean that they come and therefore we must also implement some campaigns of powerful promotion ”.
