Dresden – “City of living tradition” – under this motto, Dresden celebrates the annual “Canaletto” in August in front of a uniquely beautiful backdrop.
It is considered the largest city festival in Germany. The famous “Canaletto” is currently taking place in Dresden from August 16th to 18th. The organizer is expecting around 500,000 visitors again this year.

Guests can look forward to 15 locations, 10 stages, more than 1,500 artists, interactive activity areas and culinary delights. The heart of the city festival is the Theaterplatz with its historical backdrop.

How to get to the Dresden City Festival
The festival grounds of the major event are well connected to public transport. You can easily reach the festival grounds on foot via Prager Straße, which is located in the immediate vicinity of Dresden Central Station.
For visitors arriving by car, there are free P+R spaces on the outskirts of the city. It is recommended to park your car there and take the tram, train or bus into the city center.
If you want to drive to the site by car, you can take the following route to City Festival.
- From the motorways A4 (from Frankfurt), A13 (from Berlin) and A17 (from Prague): Exit (A4) Dresden-Altstadt, follow the trade fair signs on the advance signs, approach via Bremer Straße, Magdeburger Straße
- Within Dresden from the federal highways B6, B97, B170, B172 and B173: Follow the trade fair signs on advance signs, approach via Magdeburger Straße
This is what the weather will be like at the city festival in Dresden
Visitors can look forward to dry and sunny 30 degrees on Saturday. By 10 p.m. it will cool down to 25 degrees. On Sunday there will be alternating sunshine and rain with a maximum of 23 degrees. The probability of rain is 100 percent.
