Summary
Dylan Larkin registered his 300th NHL point in overtime, helping the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Saturday night.
CH’s biggest source of concern, however, is the fact that goalkeeper Jake Allen was forced out of the match after colliding with the same Larkin early in the match.
Initially, the Habs goalkeeper stayed in front of his cage after his rival’s involuntary check, but then retired to the locker room shortly before the first intermission, and did not return thereafter.
This means that Quebecer Samuel Montembeault, who logically had to face the Boston Bruins on Sunday, came to the Montreal net in an emergency situation.
The only goal scored in the first period belonged to Ryan Poehling, on a play prepared by Michael Pezzetta.
Larkin, however, drew the tie early in the middle period, and 45 seconds later Pius Suter gave the Wings their first lead of the game.
Chris Wideman however scored in the last third to allow CH to lead the game in extra time.
