Last night before the final match of the Stanley Cup final, the national hockey league (NHL) teams Montreal “Canadiens” and Tampa Bay “Lightning” mentioned the tragically killed Latvian goalkeeper Matīss Kivlenieks. The game was later won by the Canadiens, who played Lightning 3: 2 overtime and scored 1-3 in the series.
Yesterday, the world of hockey was shocked by the news that 24-year-old Kivlenieks had lost his life in an accident. NHL clubs have previously publicly expressed their condolences to the goalkeepers’ relatives, but before the Canadiens and Lightning match, a moment of silence was held in honor of the former national team and Columbus Blue Jackets catcher.

Later in the Lightning match, he failed to “wipe” Montreal and lift the Stanley Cup over his head. In a match in Canada, the Montreal players scored in the 1-3 series and remained intrigued. Significantly, yesterday, Tampa Mayor Jane Kestor ironized that the Lightning should allow the Canadiens to win this battle so that the Tampa Bay players could later lift the Stanley Cup over their heads in front of their spectators instead of the guests.
In the first period of the regular time, the result was revealed by Josh Anderson, who put Montreal in the lead, but in the second third, Barcly Goodrov reached 1: 1. In the final half of the game, Aleksandrs Romanovs was able to regain the lead of “Canadiens” (2: 1), but Pets Marūns equalized the result (2: 2) and provided extra time. Andersons became the main character, beating Andrejs Vasilevskis from the front
The fifth match of the series will take place in Tampa Bay on July 8 at 3:00 Latvian time.
