The research found that half of respondents with a mortgage are “worried” about making payments, while 35 per cent want the House of Commons to prioritize the cost of living.
Data shows that younger Canadians, ages 18 to 35, are the most concerned about mortgage payments.
On the other hand, many of those interviewed asked that the House of Commons prioritize, in 2024, the increase in the cost of living, health care, housing and the environment.
Meanwhile, a growing proportion of Canadians (61 percent) want the country to accept fewer immigrants in 2024 compared to 2023, Nanos’ research highlights.
The majority of respondents who expect Canada to accept fewer immigrants live in the Prairies (68.1 percent) and Ontario (67.1 percent).
According to the survey, the main reason attributed to this opinion is the real estate crisis: 31 percent say it is because “there is nowhere to live.”
About 24 percent said the country should accept fewer immigrants because it does not have the infrastructure, social services and resources to support them.
