Trevor Letowski has been hired as assistant coach for the Montreal Canadiens, the team announced Wednesday.

Letowski, 44, was assistant coach to Habs Dominique Ducharme at the 2018 World Junior Championship.

Trevor is a versatile coach, a good tactician and an excellent communicator. His vast experience as a player and the breadth of his background at all levels in hockey will be invaluable assets for success. He has a deep knowledge of today’s hockey and I am delighted to add a candidate of his caliber to our coaching staff. “
Letowski has spent the last 10 seasons behind the bench of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), as an assistant coach, associate coach or head coach. He notably led the Windsor Spitfires to the Memorial Cup in 2017.
Letowski joins Luke Richardson, who got a three-year contract extension earlier this month, and Alex Burrows as assistants to Ducharme.
Selected in the seventh round (174th overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1996 NHL Draft, Letowski has 201 points (84 goals, 117 assists) in 616 career NHL games with the Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes. He added four points (one goal, three assists) in 17 playoff games. Letowski and Richardson were teammates in Columbus between 2003 and 2006.
