Canadian Space Agency Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen Shares Artemis 2 Moon Mission Plans

JAKARTA, iNewsSerpong.id – Canadian Space Agency mission specialist Jeremy Hansen recently shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter. He showed how he and the Artemis 2 crew plan to reach the Moon in 2024.

“You can imagine what it was like to come to the launch pad and watch this living, breathing rocket full of fuel, moaning and creaking,” Hansen said, recalling the drills his crew went through on launch day. mobile launch tower at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in September.

Artemis 2 is expected to launch four individuals around the Moon in 2024 or so. Hansen will join the three NASA astronaut all of whom have been to space before.

The three members include commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialist Christina Koch, as quoted from Space.com.

Artemis Mission 1 in late 2022 successfully tested most of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket system during a trip around the Moon. Artemis 2 will take human presence a step further, and include testing Orion’s life support systems for the first time.

To minimize risks, the crew plans to conduct a series of increasingly high Earth orbit exercises before flying to the Moon. They will also circle the Moon, but not orbit it, allowing gravity to naturally bring them back to Earth after about nine days in space.

Much of the crew’s time was spent developing procedures in the Orion simulator, Hansen said in the video. “Still in development, (but) doing some basic things,” he said.

After Artemis 2 will come Artemis 3, which is currently being realized in 2025 or 2026. The mission will land on the Moon using SpaceX’s Starship system. But amidst the delays of Starship and the development of spacesuits by Axiom Space.
