A Canadian reporter has interrupted her traffic talk to put a body shamer in its place. “No, I’m not pregnant. I lost my uterus last year due to cancer,” Leslie Horton (59) explained during a live morning show.

The woman, who has worked for the Canadian news channel Global News for 28 years, often hears hurtful comments about her appearance. “That’s apparently part of the job if you often appear on TV with your face,” says Horton.
This time, however, the red line was crossed. “I’m going to respond to an email I just received,” he said sharply. “’Congratulations on your pregnancy,’ it read. ‘If you wear the pants of an old bus driver, you can expect criticism’.”
“Four years of dredging mail”
In one smooth movement, Horton answered the whiner. “Thank you for your contribution. But no, I am not pregnant. I lost my uterus last year due to cancer. And this is just what women my age look like. Too bad if that bothers you, but in the future, think twice when you send an email.”

Normally Horton ignores such offensive comments, but in this case it was about a guy who has been sending her junk mail for four years. “He is clearly not a fan and that is completely okay,” responds the reporter at The Canadian Press news agency. “I can handle criticism, but just continue to treat me with respect. This message was purely meant to humiliate me and make me feel bad. I responded on impulse, but the words I used came straight from my heart.”
Jamie Lee Curtis
The short rant went viral on social media, leaving Horton showered with accolades. Even Hollywood stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Michelle Pfeiffer supported her. “But don’t make me the spokesperson for all women’s suffering. I’m just a simple mom from Calgary who is lucky enough to be able to pursue her passion – five hours of live TV a day.”

Horton was diagnosed with uterine cancer in December 2021. After the surgical procedure, it took months before she could return to work. “The impact was enormous. I have now become much more grateful for life itself. I also learned what is really important to me and what I expect from the behavior of others. That apparently led to this response to an inappropriate email.”
