Canadian families affected by the plane shot down by Iran will receive financial support, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced during a press conference on Friday. During the crash, all 176 passengers were killed last week, including 57 Canadians.
The families receive a reimbursement of 25,000 euros per victim. According to the prime minister, the money is intended to help with “immediate needs,” such as arranging a funeral.
About twenty families of Canadian victims have requested the return of bodies. The first mortal remains are expected to arrive in Canada within a few days.
During the press conference, Trudeau insists that Iran should send the black boxes of the aircraft, on which data and voice recordings of the shot down passenger aircraft, to France for analysis. According to the prime minister, France is one of the few countries that can read the badly damaged boxes.
The black boxes are currently being investigated in Iran by a team consisting of experts from that country, Ukraine and Canada. According to Ukraine, Iran has Friday promised hand over the data to Kiev next week.
It is unclear which country will further investigate the black boxes.
