Reuters Source Photo Associated News Canadian Prime Minister Rat Stin Trudeau, 51, has decided to separate from his spouse Sophie Gregoire, 48, after 18 years of marriage.
“After meaningful and difficult conversations, we have decided to break up with Sophie,” Trudeau said on Instagram on the 2nd (local time). “As always, we will remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other. Please respect privacy for the well-being of children.”
According to Reuters, the Prime Minister’s Office of Canada said, “The couple has been working on all legal and ethical measures related to the separation,” and explained that they signed the relevant documents.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Sophie got married in Montreal at the end of May 2005, and the two have two sons and one daughter: Xavier (15), Ella Grace (14) and Hadrien (9). Sophie is a former TV presenter, and the Prime Minister’s family will go on vacation together next week. Prime Minister Trudeau’s parents, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and Margaret, also separated after six years of marriage in March 1971, and officially divorced in April 1984.
