Canadian police have managed to completely free an important bridge on the US border from protesters

The protest had paralyzed the supply of car parts and other products across the border earlier this week until a Canadian court ordered protesters to leave the bridge immediately on Friday.

Police began clearing the bridge on Saturday morning, and some of the campaigners left voluntarily, but new protesters arrived, but only a few dozen people remained on the bridge by Sunday morning.

Police have now been detained and the bridge completely released, according to police.

The US White House has welcomed the decisive action taken by Canadian law enforcement, noting that officials in both countries have already discussed the damage caused by the protests and the need to take urgent and effective action to prevent further possible blockades.

Demonstrations in Canada began in late January as a protest against the government’s decision to extend compulsory vaccination to truck drivers in cross-border traffic, but grew sharply against the restrictions on Covid-19 and the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudo.

The protests have also provoked similar demonstrations in France, New Zealand and elsewhere.

The bridge is used by more than 40,000 people a day, as well as trucks carrying goods worth an average of $ 323 million, which accounts for about a quarter of Canada-US trade.
