MADRID, 18 Nov. (PRESS EUROPE) –
Canadian Police (RCMP, for its acronym in English) Thursday filed a terrorism complaint against a man in the province of Quebec for allegedly planning a coup in Haiti.
Gerald Nicolas, 51, has been accused of plotting to overthrow the government of Haiti led by Jovenel Moise — assassinated in July 2021 while in the presidential residence — with an armed revolution, all in order to finally seize power, as detailed by the Police in a statement.
Specifically, Nicolas is accused of committing the crime of leaving Canada to facilitate terrorist activities and providing property for terrorist purposes.
In this sense, the accused would have carried out concrete actions, including traveling to Haiti to coordinate a group of people whose intent was to carry out a coup against the established authority.
The investigation, which is unrelated to the murder of Jovenel Moise, led the RCMP to file charges after a joint investigation by the National Security Services and police in the Canadian city of Ville de Lévis, where the defendant lived.
