Prime Minister (PM) of Canada Justin Trudeau announced the delivery of new weapons and equipment for Ukraine after a surprise visit to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
Trudeau, in a press conference following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, also said Canada was imposing new sanctions on a number of individuals and entities. Russia in connection with the Moscow invasion of Ukraine.
“Today, I’m announcing more military assistance, drone cameras, satellite imagery, small arms, ammunition and other support, including funding for mine operations,” Trudeau said. AFPMonday (9/5/2022).
“And we are applying for new sanctions against 40 Russian individuals and five entities, the oligarchs and close associates of the regime in the defense sector, all involved in Putin’s (Russian President Vladimir Putin) war,” the Canadian leader added.
Previously, Trudeau visited the city of Irpin on the outskirts of Kiev, the focal point of intense fighting between Ukrainian troops and Russia before Russia withdrew at the end of March. He says Canada is reopening its embassy in the capital Ukraine.
Trudeau also said the world would do everything possible to ensure that Putin loses the war in Ukraine.
“What Putin needs to understand is that the West is really determined and decided against what he’s doing,” Trudeau told Reuters in an interview.
