Lebanon’s national team competitor in the 2023 Basketball World Cup loses its most prominent stars
The Canadian national basketball team, which is preparing to compete in the 2023 World Cup, suffered a heavy blow before the official start of the tournament a week from now, after one of its most prominent stars was injured and prevented from traveling with the delegation that will participate in the tournament.
The star of the Canadian national basketball team, Jamal Murray, suffered a severe injury that forced him to withdraw from participating with the national team in the World Cup, Thursday, and he is the one who contributed to his team crowning the Denver Nuggets title in the American Basketball League in the 2022-2023 season.
In this context, Murray, who returned last season to the Nuggets squad after suffering bitterly with knee injuries, said, “When I came to training camp, I wanted to discover how my body responded after a long, demanding season, and if I was physically able to compete at the highest level in the World Cup.”
Murray added, “After consulting with the medical staff and the team, it is clear that I need more time to recover, and I have made the difficult decision not to participate in the tournament. I still dream of representing Canada in the Olympic Games, and I will support the team at all its stops.”
Murray averaged 21.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 10 assists per game in the NBA Finals, in which the Denver Nuggets and Serbian star Nikola Jokic defeated the struggling Miami Heat.
On the other hand, the news of the absence of the star Murray from the Canadian national team will be a great positive for the Lebanese national team, which will play in the eighth and final group alongside Canada, Latvia and France, and thus the chances of the “Cedar” team to present something against the strong Canadian team will increase.
