Canadian dies in bus crash on Montreal to New York route, two others injured

A Canadian died and two others were injured in a major accident involving a bus linking Montreal and New York on an American highway on Friday.

Global Affairs Canada said Saturday it had been informed “of the death of an alleged Canadian citizen in the United States.” However, his identity has not been revealed.

Two Canadians would also be among the dozen injured, the ministry said in an email to Journal.

The crash occurred around 12:50 p.m. on the southbound expressways of Interstate 87 between Warrensburg and Lake George, New York State Police said Friday. The bus was then approximately halfway between Montreal and the Big Apple.

One of the passengers was airlifted in critical condition to Albany Medical Center, and he was eventually confirmed dead by authorities.

One other person suffered significant injuries, and ten had minor injuries, New York State Police said.

A total of 23 people were on board the bus, including the driver, the police said.

The bus involved in the accident was operated by FlixBus and was making its planned route between Montreal and downtown Manhattan.
