“Ashley has risen to the ranks of women’s soccer’s top defenders on the club scene and internationally,” said Chelsea head coach Emma Hayes. Her ability to climb up front and her progressive play in the attacking third are strengths that set her apart and she can play on the left as well as on the right. We are really looking forward to counting on her in our ranks. »
“We have followed Ashley for several years and we are happy to see her arrive at the club. Ashley is one of the best offensive backs in the world and she will add another dimension to our game,” added general manager Paul Green.
Since making her professional debut at PSG in 2017, she has racked up 180 games. She was named to the UEFA Champions League All-Star Team in 2016-17 as a full-back and won the French Championship (2020-2021) and Coupe de France ( in 2018 and 2022). Lawrence was also a finalist for the Ballon d’Or in 2021, finishing eighth in the ballot. She played 117 ‘A’ international matches with Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team, including 97 starts, eight goals and 14 assists. Additionally, she won an Olympic gold medal with Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
“I am very excited and grateful to join a club of this level in England and in Europe. There is a lot of emotion and excitement and I can’t wait to meet everyone, the rest of the players as well as the staff and start the next campaign,” said Lawrence.
Lawrence joins Chelsea FC in the summer recruitment period at the end of the 2022-2023 season and will play alongside compatriots Jessie Fleming and Kadeisha Buchanan. This season, Chelsea FC took top spot in the Women’s Super League table and lifted their fifth FA Women’s League Cup trophy since 2014.
