Paris. Canadian Summer McIntosh, a new swimming prodigy at 17, won the 200-meter medley final on Saturday and claimed her third individual gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
McIntosh also broke the Olympic record for the event with a time of 2 minutes 06.56 seconds, beating American Kate Douglass (2:06.92) in the final freestyle section.
Australian Kaylee McKeown, champion of the 100 and 200m backstroke, took bronze in 2:08.08 after the disqualification of American Alex Walsh.
McIntosh adds this title to her 200m butterfly and 400m medley titles, as well as a silver in the 400m freestyle final, where she finished ahead of American star Katie Ledecky.
Only the French phenomenon Léon Marchand has won more individual gold medals in the pool at La Défense, with four.
The Toronto gem was one of the revelations of the Tokyo 2020 Games, being the youngest Olympian in her country’s history at 14 years old and finishing fourth in the 400m freestyle.
As expected, McIntosh, whose mother Jill competed in the 1984 Los Angeles swimming event, has finally emerged as a new star of women’s swimming at Paris 2024.
