The Government of Canada, through Transport Canada, has decided to extend the ban on disembarking passengers from cruise ships for another year. Canadian authorities consider that the passage of cruise ships in the country’s ports poses a risk to the health system.
It is recalled that this measure, which affects cruise ships with more than 100 passengers, has been in force since spring 2020 and should end later this month.
It should be noted that most of the major cruises that visit Alaska are registered in foreign countries, but the federal law of the United States of America prohibits ships registered in other countries from sailing between two American ports without, in the meantime, stopping at a foreign port.
This reality makes cruise ships bound for Alaska start their voyages in Canada or stop at a port in this country during their journey.
However, Canada admits to lifting the ban first, if pandemic conditions permit.
