Canada: wildfire destroys Lytton town after temperatures of 49.5 degrees, video

A Forest firespreading rapidly, forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 residents of Lytton, in Canada, after the small town broke the national record with 49.5 °C, the highest temperature of all time in the country.

Authorities confirmed over the weekend that at least two people had died from the fire, and many are missing, due to the hasty evacuation of the town on Wednesday, June 30.

“I saw my pets burn alive”

Pierre Quevillon saw how the flames consumed his house in Lytton, and did not think twice to quickly get ready to flee the city. He packed his two dogs into his truck and then ran inside to rescue his cat. However, upon returning to his vehicle, he found it engulfed in flames.

The man had no choice but to abandon his burning truck and the dogs inside. “I ran into the city and the fire was following me,” he said. “And in about 15 minutes, the whole city had been consumed”added.

Quevillon is one of the townspeople who was forced to leave his home and flee to neighboring cities after fires swept through much of the small Canadian town.

Quevillon’s house was one of the first to catch fire, after the city’s mayor issued an immediate evacuation order.

A friend had called him to warn him of the looming fire when he set out to save his pets, only to be forced to flee the city on foot with his cat in his arms.

“The whole town was on fire, the fire was coming towards me. Then I reached the end of town and the only thing left to burn was me“, he asserted.

Meanwhile, Canadian authorities have been investigating the possible causes of the fire. So far there are three theories, the accident of a train, by human work, or the heat wave of several days ago, caused by the climate change in Canada.
