Canada, United States and Mexico to discuss CUSMA next week

International Trade Minister Mary Ng has announced that she will participate in the virtual meetings scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

Mexican Secretary of the Economy Tatiana Clouthier will also attend the meeting hosted by US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

The commission, an agency created under the terms of theAceu, is the main body overseeing the agreement, which entered into force last July.

Its mandate is to guide the implementation process, help resolve disputes, and oversee the work of lower-level committees and working groups.

Dairy products will likely be a hot topic on the agenda: the United States has already filed a formal complaint that its producers are being unfairly excluded from the Canadian market.

The meetings will be an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of supply chains, the application of labor and environmental standards provided for in the agreement and the mitigation of the economic effects of climate change, said the ministry of Ms. Ng in a press release.

Ms. Tai’s office promised new information on the work that has been done so far on the implementation of the agreement, as well as robust discussions on clauses concerning labor and the environment.
