Ottawa: The Canadian Parliament unanimously approved accepting 10,000 Uyghur Muslim refugees. The proposal put forward by Samir Suberi MP was approved by Justin Trudeau’s cabinet in February last year.
With the approval of the Parliament, the acceptance of refugees is expected to become a reality by next year. Sameer Suberi MP responded that the human rights violations committed against the Uighur groups cannot be accepted.
The majority of Uyghur Muslims live in Xinjiang, an autonomous region in northwestern China, where the Turkic language is spoken. The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) says China’s 2 million Uyghur Muslim minority groups are being tortured in secret camps. America called it genocide.
Tens of thousands left the country without suffering persecution. China accuses the Uyghurs of wanting to establish the East Turkestan Republic, which existed for a few years from the 1930s.
