Canada Masters 1000 confirms two local stars as wildcards

In the midst of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but after the end of tennis, the Canadian Open will be played, where several of the best players in the world will not be present. The organisers have already confirmed that two of the local tennis players, one of whom has participated in France, have received a wildcard: Milos Raonic and Denis Shapovalov.

The main draw of the Canadian Open, an ATP Masters 1000 event, will be played from 6-12 August 2024. One of the most prestigious tournaments of the North American summer hard-court season, this tournament has a rich history of champions, from Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to Andy Murray and 2023 champion Jannik Sinner.

Wildcards for the Canadian Open

The tournament organisers have announced the list of invited players, which includes several Canadians. Former world number 3 Milos Raonic has been given a wild card, as the 33-year-old has been slowly regaining his form after a long break due to injury.

Denis Shapovalov also received a wildcard to his home tournament, and will be joined by Canadian veteran Vasek Pospisil and doubles specialist Gabriel Diallo. Alexis Galarneau, Liam Draxl, Taha Baadi and Justin Boulais have all received wildcards that will allow them to compete for a spot in the main draw.
