A shocking video showing lightning striking a plane, an extremely rare occurrence during a flight, is making the rounds on the internet.
The video was captured by a trainee pilot while he was near the runway at Vancouver International Airport on Sunday. Suddenly he saw a Boeing 777-300R taking off and began to record it, when it was struck by lightning.

Air Canada said in a statement that the plane was checked upon arrival at London’s Heathrow Airport, which was also its final destination. It is even reported that the planes are built to withstand lightning strikes and all aircraft are taken out of service to be checked by engineers.
According to the US National Weather Service, a commercial airplane is struck by lightning on average once or twice a year, and is even rarer to record.
