Canada Joins United States to Create Carbon Neutral Oil Producers Forum | Business | The sun

The latter announced Thursday that the United States will reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% to 52% from 2005 levels by 2030, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pledged that Canada would reduce its GHGs by 40% to 45% over the same period. The targets were called “extremely aggressive” by Precision Drilling CEO Kevin Neveu.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland defended Canada’s higher goal on Friday during a presentation at the Canadian Club in Toronto, saying that if the energy sector is very important to Canada, it must be part of the solution to climate change, because “that’s where the emissions are”.

Mr. O’Regan said the world is increasing its climate ambitions and Canada will lead the way.

“We have hundreds of thousands of workers who have the know-how to build energy infrastructure and they are the ones who will reduce emissions and build our clean energy future,” said Minister O’Regan in a statement.
