Canada introduces 160,000 Modena vaccines within the year Voice of America

Canada is expected to introduce 168,000 doses of the new coronavirus vaccine from the US biotechnology company Moderna within this year.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the plan at a press conference on the 15th, and local health authorities are expected to approve the vaccine soon. After approval, Trudeau explained, the vaccine will begin shipping within 48 hours.

The vaccine will be directed to remote areas, indigenous communities and to the Arctic Circle, Trudeau said.

Canada brought in a vaccine jointly developed by US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech this week, and started vaccination against vulnerable groups such as medical staff and patients in nursing hospitals.

However, CBC reported that Pfizer vaccine was not distributed to the Arctic Circle, where the refrigeration facilities were not properly equipped because the Pfizer vaccine was stored at -70 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy.

Canada is also expected to introduce an additional 200,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
