Canada Expels Diplomat After PM Trudeau Claims Indian Hand in Killing of Khalistani Leader

Toronto: Canada has expelled India’s diplomatic representative after allegations of India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistanist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This was reported by various international media citing Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has alleged that there is credible information that Indian agents are behind the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Following this, Canada expelled the Indian official further worsening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Media including Al Jazeera reported that Melanie Jolie explained that the diplomatic representative was expelled in the context of the clear connection with India regarding the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. However, no information has been released as to who has been fired or from where.

“India’s action is unacceptable as an encroachment on Canada’s sovereignty. That is why the information about the expulsion of the diplomatic representative is being released’ – Melanie Joly said, Al Jazeera reported.

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also stated that India’s role in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar was clear. Trudeau said that Canada’s security forces have received reliable information that agents appointed by the Indian government are behind the murder of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The role of foreign hands in the killing of a Canadian citizen is in no way acceptable. This is a violation of international law. Trudeau also explained that the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar angered and frightened some people of Indian origin.

Khalistan separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead in Canada on June 18. Two unidentified men fired at Hardeep inside the Gurdwara. The National Crime Agency had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information about Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep. A red corner notice was issued against Hardeep in a case of conspiracy to kill a Hindu priest in Jalandhar, Punjab.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar is the accused in the case of shooting Indian-origin businessman Ripudaman Malik in Canada on July 14, 2022. There are 10 FIRs against Hardeep including this. Hardeep started as a plumber in Canada. In 2013, Pak Ktif chief Jagtar Singh visited Tara. In 2015, the Indian Intelligence Service believes that Pakistan’s spy agency ISI gave Hardeep weapons training. Nijjar hails from Bharasingpur in Jalandhar, Punjab.

Meanwhile, following Nijjar’s death, Khalistan militants have unleashed widespread violence. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco was attacked and set on fire as a continuation of this. Meanwhile, the rally held by supporters of Khalistan in Canada was a reason for India’s displeasure. India has strongly condemned the use of pictures of Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and Consul General in Toronto Apoorva Srivastava in the poster of the Khalistan terrorists’ rally titled ‘Kill India’. Canada had condemned the rally, but India had raised allegations of not taking strong action.
