Canada Bans Khalistan Terrorist Groups; India-Canada Diplomatic Relations Deteriorate

Canada bans two Khalistan groups Babbar Khursa International and International Sikh Youth Federation were banned. India’s long-standing demand was to ban the five Khalistan groups. But Canada has now banned two of these groups. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has found that 11 Khalistan terrorists are active in Canada, Pakistan and Europe. Diplomatic relations between Canada and India deteriorated after the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18.

India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar yesterday explained that the diplomatic issues between Canada and India should be resolved by both parties together. However, Jaishankar in the media conference accused the Canadian government of taking a soft approach towards terrorism, extremism and violence as the main problem. He also stated that India is ready to verify and take action if Canada hands over the relevant facts on the allegation of India’s involvement in Nijjar’s murder.
