Children between five and 11 years of age in Canada can be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, This makes the country the first to authorize doses to minors.
“After a thorough and independent scientific review of the evidence, the Department (of Health) has determined that the benefits of this vaccine for children between the ages of five and 11 outweigh the risks,” announced an official statement from Health Canada.
The decision follows a request from both companies filed on October 18. after conducting a clinical trial among thousands of children in this age group.
The vaccine was found to be more than 90 percent effective in preventing covid-19 and no serious side effects were identified.
A small group of countries, including Israel and the United States, They have already given the green light to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children.
China, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia and Colombia also hhave started vaccinating children under 12 years of age but with the Chinese vaccines.
