Canada and Russia in the semi-finals, no victory for France

After Poland and Spain on Wednesday, Russia and Canada also qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP Cup this Thursday in Sydney. Canada had its destiny in its hands since it was enough to win its meeting against Germany to finish first in its group. Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime did the job in singles, struggling to overcome Jan-Lennard Struff (7-6, 4-6, 6-3) and world number 3 Alexander Zverev (6-4, 4- 6, 6-3). The Russians had to go to the decisive double to beat Italy, a double in which the Medvedev-Safiullin pair won in the super tie-break against Matteo Berrettini and Janik Sinner (5-7, 6-4, 10 -5). In this same group, France, already eliminated, did not manage to beat Australia to get its first victory in this ATP Cup despite the great victory of Arthur Rinderknech over James Duckworth (6-4, 7-6 ).
