Irapuato, Gto. July 16, 2024.- Canada is the leader of its group and among the favorite teams in the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup by achieving its third victory.
Meanwhile, Egypt and Puerto Rico are losing their third consecutive matches to continue to the second phase of the tournament.
The U17 Group C and D stages were held this Tuesday at Infórum Irapuato; a scenario that saw Canada, Chinese Taipei and Australia crowned with victory.
The Canadian and French teams from Group D opened the day on Tuesday with an exciting match that gave the victory to the North American country with a score of 68-52.
Two strong teams that kept the audience in suspense with their plays. Canada and France were strong rivals and both managed to win two and two halves of the match, however, the Europeans did not get enough points and suffered their first defeat.
Savannah Swords was her team’s top scorer with 25 points while Frenchwoman Justine Loubens added 17 points.
Chinese Taipei emerged victorious from its encounter with Egypt, a game in which the Asians showed off their speed and strategy against a rival that missed one after another the opportunities to score and make points.
The score ended 69-45. Chen Chia Shan was the top scorer for her team with 15 points, while Joudy Elbaz was the top scorer for the Egyptian team.
From Group C, the Puerto Rican squad saw its third defeat in the U17 by losing 46-67 to the Australian team that dominated the court for most of the game.
Diann Jackson was the figure who gave the most battle on behalf of the Puerto Rican team by scoring 14 points, even above Erica Rose Jackson Finney of Australia whose baskets gave her 12 points.
