Canada allocates an additional $50 million for humanitarian aid in Ukraine

Canada plans to allocate an additional 50 million Canadian dollars (about 39.5 US dollars) for humanitarian aid and development programs in Ukraine. That’s what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in Ottawa.

The funds would be in addition to a CA$120 million loan to Ukraine, he said.

Trudeau called on Russia to reduce tensions and engage in dialogue to find a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the situation. “Canada also remains an unshakable friend of Ukraine and will continue its close cooperation with the Ukrainian government and partners in the region.”

The Prime Minister also announced a visit by Defense Minister Anita Anand to Latvia and Ukraine, where Canadian military units are located.

Last week, Canada pledged a CA$120 million (about US$92 million) loan to support Ukraine’s economy and governance reforms.
