TORONTO – Cyle Larin scored twice early in the game as Canada advanced to the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals with a 4-1 win over Honduras on Tuesday.
Jonathan David and Jonathan Osorio added second-half successes for Canada, ranked 53rd in the world. The representatives of the maple leaf have never been worried, even after the replica of Jorge Benguchi for Honduras, 81st in the world.
Canada (3-1-0) needed at least a tie to secure first place in Group C and a ticket to the semi-finals.
Honduras (2-2-0), whose captain was CF Montreal member Romell Quioto, had to win to extend their run.
The suspense didn’t last long, as Canada led 2-0 after just 12 minutes. Larin could have completed a hat trick before the end of the first half, but missed the target on a 42nd-minute penalty.
The United States, Mexico and Panama will be the other nations of the four aces.
The semi-finals will be played June 15-18 at Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.
Canada now has a 9-12-7 record against Honduras, including a 6-2-3 home record.
