Diplomas this monday deported from Canada on charges of links to a criminal network. Canada says the Indian government may have collaborated with the Lawrence Bishnoi crime group.

This brings a new chapter to the diplomatic row between India and Canada, which arose after the assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023.

It is suspected that six Indian diplomats associated with that killing are involved in wider violence against the Sikh community. Canadian police say confirmation because this was in collaboration with criminal organizations.

It is said that the diplomats have collected information for violent purposes and then shared it with organized crime, reports the Reuters news agency. This allowed criminal groups to threaten and extradite members of the Khalistan movement, among other things, on behalf of the Indian government, Canadian police said at a press conference.

Lawrence Bishnoi

Commissioner Brigitte Gauvin mentions the Bishnoi group in this latest accusation. Their leader, Lawrence Bishnoi, has been in custody in India since 2015. However, he is suspected of running his network from behind bars, the British newspaper says The Keeper. There was no further evidence of this.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says India made a “fundamental mistake in thinking it could undermine Canada’s sovereignty in this aggressive way.” He says he cannot accept such ” gross violation of international law”.

India denies the allegations and says they are baseless. New Delhi called the earlier allegations “absurd”.
