The names of the characters of Soviet cinema are on everyone’s lips: many of them eventually became household names. The writers had problems with some names and surnames: for various reasons, the writers had to remake the original version and invent something new. So, for example, in the original screenplay of Gaidai’s play “Prisoner of the Caucasus”, Vladimir Etush’s character bore the surname Akhokhov. However, since the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kabardino-Balkan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was born of the same name, the management of the Mosfilm film studio demanded that he be changed. The screenwriters proposed the “Saakhov” option: it was important to keep the exclamation of admiration “ah” in the surname. The Arts Council rose into a pose again: a certain Saakov was in the party organization of the film studio. Perhaps the long-suffering “Prisoner” should have been re-enacted if Minister of Culture Ekaterina Furtseva had not intervened. You said they have hundreds of Ivanovs in the Ministry of Culture – and that now, because of all the films, they should be dubbed? As a result, it was decided to leave Saakhov.
