Jakarta –
Trainer Portugal national team, Fernando Santos, believe Cristiano Ronaldo can play until the age of 40 years. However, is Ronaldo sure it can happen?
Ronaldo has scored 101 goals for the Portuguese national team in 165 matches. Ronaldo became the first European footballer to break 100 international goals. Ronaldo has 0.61 goals per match so far in the national team.
From the total number of goals, Cristiano Ronaldo only lost to Iranian players, Ali Daei. Currently, Daei, who has long hung his boots, is listed as the player with the highest number of goals on the international stage.
Ali Daei scored 109 goals in his 149 appearances for the Iranian national team in the 1993-2006 period. Daei has a percentage of 0.73 goals per game. Cristiano Ronaldo only needs eight more goals to match Ali Daei’s record goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo might be able to do that. Santos is very confident that the Portugal national team captain, who is now 35 years old, can play for another five years.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to play until he is 40 years old, but he doesn’t know if that will happen,” Santos told TVI24.
Santos believes that Ronaldo will hang up his shoes by himself if he feels that his fitness is disturbing. So, the matter of when Ronaldo will retire all depends on the former Real Madrid player.
“At some point he may feel that he no longer has the same condition,” he continued.
Ronaldo is still very sharp at the start of the Italian League 2020/2021. From the two matches he has played with Juventus, Ronaldo has contributed three goals.
